"Rise And Shine" - 06/11/22

I just finished this painting of a sunflower called "Rise And Shine".

Sunflowers have a rich and long history in the cultures of both the East and West. From the Incas using sunflowers to symbolize their Sun God. To the ancient Chinese believing sunflowers radiated powers of immortality. In almost every culture the sunflower represents loyalty, adoration, happiness, optimism, honesty, longevity, peace, admiration, and devotion. It universally has the power to bring joy to people.

The Pointillist painters of the 1880's were interested in using dots to visually mix colors. This Neo-Pointillist painting of this sunflower is my latest example of that Pointillist technique of mixing colors. This painting has around 20,000 dots!

You can currently see this painting and others of mine at the Park Avenue Contemporary gallery in Winter Park, Florida. If you are in or around Winter Park sure to stop in and take a look.

"John Lennon" - 03/08/22

I just finished this painting of "John Lennon".

In the 60's and 70's when I was growing up, the Beatles revolutionized popular music. It was a time when it seemed like every week everybody couldn't wait to hear what John Lennon and the Beatles would come up with next. They never failed to deliver.

This painting is done with acrylic paint on 2 sheets of 18"x24" plexiglass on top of 3 sheets of 24"x32" plexiglass.

My Giesha goes to Winter Park - 01/06/22

I just dropped of my painting "Geisha - Woman of Art" to the Park Avenue Contemporary gallery in Winter Park, FL. She is hanging with my painting of Andy Warhol's Marilyn.

The most literal translation of "geisha" in English is "artist", "performing artist" or "artisan". A second translation in the Kyoto dialect spoken by geisha in Kyoto and Western Japan is "woman of art".

Geisha are not the Eastern equivalent of a prostitute. Courtesans (oiran), and other Japanese sex workers have an appearance similar to that of geisha. Geisha are female Japanese entertainers who perform traditional dance and song. They are easily recognized by the kimono and white opaque powder makeup called oshiroi that they wear.

The flower-decorated ornamental hairpins that geisha wear are called hana kanzashi and change with the season.

The gallery owner Denise Autorino has a long successful history promoting local and nationally recognised artists in central Florida.

And I'm in great company, because the gallery also representes some other artists that I am honored to call my friends. Mindy Z. Colton, Doug Powell, Todd K. Fox, and Victor Bokas.

If you are in or around Winter Park, FL make sure to stop in and say hi to Denise and my paintings. 348 Park Avenue South Winter Park, FL. The gallery's hours are: Tues - Fri: 11am–7pm, Sat: 10am–8pm, Sun: 11am–6pm, Mon: Closed.
